The Vienna Town Council approved a one percent increase in the town's meals tax, bringing it to 4 percent, effective Jan. 1, 2026, according to an Aug. 25 news release. The increase matches Fairfax County's new meals tax, which is also effective January 1, 2026. The town’s meals tax applies only within Vienna town limits, while the county’s meals tax applies to businesses outside the town. The increased 4 percent tax could help pay for a community aquatics and fitness center on the former Annex property, with an anticipated 2030 opening.

The Town Council will discuss the aquatics and fitness center during a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) work session on September 15, at 7 p.m. at the Vienna Police Department Community Room. A vote on the CIP is expected at the regular Town Council meeting on October 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Vienna Town Hall.
